Eric Shapiro
"I'm changing the way in which online learning environments can serve and empower underprivileged communities."
Focus Area: Education
School: University of Pennsylvania Wharton School
Biography:
Eric Shapiro is a junior in Wharton doing an individualized concentration in Innovative Leadership in Education, a combination of management, policy and education. After spending a year at NYU, he realized his dreams did not involve international politics but instead the intersection between business and education. He currently does mentoring work with youth in West Philadelphia, works with the Open Learning team that produces Penn Coursera courses, facilitates intercultural dialogue for a group of freshmen and advocates for increased transfer representation on campus. Outside of this work (which rarely feels like work because it's too fun), he drums for an African drum and dance troupe on campus, attends the finest musical acts at Union Transfer and spends time reading, dreaming and wandering (although usually not at the same time).
